The definitive scale book for Double Bass

This scale book has fingerings for major and minor scales and arpeggios in one, two and three octaves. One and two octave minor scales also include melodic minor and harmonic minor.

The book starts out in “traditional positions” (Simandl) for one and two octave scales and arpeggios…then moves on to using the “pivot technique” (Rabbath) for an additional set of two octaves, and pivots for three octave scales and arpeggios.

Why write a scale book?

I got the idea for this book when several of my students needed scales for classwork and all-state auditions. I wanted to create a scale book that would meet their needs: solid, logical fingerings moving from traditional position technique to pivot technique, covering all major and minor scales and arpeggios in one, two and three octaves, all in one book, for an affordable price.

It is my hope that with this book any double bassist can learn solid left-hand technique and a basic knowledge of all major and minor scales and arpeggios. I hope you enjoy this book and become a better double bassist by using it!
